The MLK Lady Lions traveled to Forsyth Central High School to take on Heritage and Forsyth Central High Schools on Wed 10/1. The Lady Lions fell 14-6 to the Heritage Generals and forced a 6-6 tie with the Forsyth Central Bulldogs, but the ladies definitely gave MLK supporters something to look forward to this season. Returning starters, QB Zara Pearson and RB/WR Chase Clarke connected early and often for key plays, including a huge 60+ yard pass against Heritage for MLK's first TD of the season. Pearson's dual threat ability was on full display as she gave both teams trouble all night, finding holes in the defense for gains on the ground and in the passing game, including a short TD pass to WR Chanel Fears to open a 6-0 lead against Forsyth Central. Pearson also connected with WR/P Cherysh Browning for key plays that helped MLK move the ball and gain field position advantages. On defense, returning starter LB/R Amya Collins helped the defense settle down against Forsyth Central after the loss to Heritage and their frequent misdirection and double lateral play offense. CB/S Jordan Gavin came up with a huge goal line interception to seal the tie versus Forsyth Central. The Lady Lions will be at Walden Athletic Field on 10/8, looking for their first win of the season as they face off against Chapel-Hill Douglasville and Maynard Jackson High Schools. Let's go Lady Lions, you have our full support!
